Role: Burst DPS / Cryo Infusion Support
Best For: Players who want a quickswap Cryo character who can provide Cryo infusion while contributing strong Elemental Burst damage.
1. Recommended Artifacts
4-Piece Noblesse Oblige — A strong general option for Chongyun because his low-cost Elemental Burst can activate the teamwide ATK buff consistently.
Alternative: 4-Piece Emblem of Severed Fate can improve his personal Burst damage, while 4-Piece Gilded Dreams is useful when Chongyun consistently triggers Melt.
2. Recommended Weapons
Premium: Wolf’s Gravestone
Alternatives: Serpent Spine, Sacrificial Greatsword
F2P: Mailed Flower / Prototype Archaic
Wolf’s Gravestone combines high ATK with a potential teamwide ATK buff, while Sacrificial Greatsword provides additional Energy and can reset Chongyun’s Skill. Mailed Flower is especially useful in Melt teams if it was obtained during its event.
3. Recommended Teams
Reverse Melt: Chongyun + Rosaria + Xiangling + Bennett
Freeze: Chongyun + Kaeya + Xingqiu + Jean
Mono Cryo: Chongyun + Shenhe + Kaeya + Kazuha
Chongyun’s Elemental Skill creates a field that infuses Sword, Claymore, and Polearm attacks with Cryo. This allows him to enable unusual Cryo-focused teams while contributing additional damage through his Burst.
4. Main Stats / Substats
Sands: ATK% / Elemental Mastery
Goblet: Cryo DMG Bonus
Circlet: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
Priority: Energy Recharge until needed → CRIT → Elemental Mastery in Melt → ATK%
Chongyun generally has manageable Energy requirements because his Burst costs relatively little. Elemental Mastery becomes more valuable when he consistently triggers Melt, while other teams can focus more heavily on CRIT and ATK.
5. Playstyle
Use Chongyun’s Elemental Skill to deal Cryo damage and create his Cryo infusion field, then use his Elemental Burst for quick AoE Cryo damage before switching to another character.
His Burst should generally receive talent priority, followed by his Skill. Normal Attacks are usually unnecessary because Chongyun typically functions as a quickswap character rather than remaining on-field.
6. F2P
Chongyun does not require a 5-star Claymore to perform his main role. Mailed Flower is strong for Melt if you already own it, while Prototype Archaic provides a permanently available craftable option.
F2P players can focus on Chongyun’s Burst and Skill rather than heavily investing in his Normal Attacks. His Cryo infusion is provided directly by his Skill, so he can offer useful team utility even without expensive equipment.
*StoryBillion Tip: Be careful when placing Chongyun into teams with physical damage dealers. His Skill converts Sword, Claymore, and Polearm Normal and Charged Attacks to Cryo inside its field, which can interfere with characters that want their attacks to remain Physical.
