Why Isn’t My Burst Recharging Even With High Energy Recharge in Genshin Impact?

You gave your character more Energy Recharge, but their Elemental Burst still is not ready when you need it.

Maybe you have 180%, 200%, or even more Energy Recharge, yet you still find yourself waiting for the Burst icon to fill.

So what is going wrong?

High Energy Recharge does not generate Energy by itself.

Energy Recharge increases the Energy your character gains from Elemental Particles and Orbs. If your team is not generating enough particles—or your character is receiving them inefficiently—raising ER alone may not solve the problem.

That means a character can have high Energy Recharge and still struggle to use their Burst every rotation.

Here are the most common reasons why.


This is the first thing to check.

Energy Recharge is a multiplier on Energy gained from Elemental Particles and Orbs. It is not a passive Energy generator.

Imagine two characters standing around without generating or collecting any particles.

One has:

100% Energy Recharge

The other has:

200% Energy Recharge

The character with 200% ER does not automatically regenerate their Burst twice as fast while doing nothing.

They need an Energy source first.

This is why adding more ER can sometimes appear to do very little. If your rotation produces too little Energy in the first place, there is not enough incoming Energy for the higher ER to multiply.

If your Burst is still empty after a rotation, look at particle generation, not just the ER number on your character.

Elemental Skills are one of the main ways characters generate Elemental Particles.

But different characters and Skills do not necessarily generate Energy in the same way.

Your team may simply be producing too little Energy for the Burst-dependent character.

This can happen when:

  • Skills are not being used often enough.
  • A Skill misses or is not used under the conditions needed to generate particles.
  • Your rotation skips an important Skill use.
  • Your team has weak particle generation for the character you are trying to recharge.

More ER can reduce the problem, but it cannot completely replace a reliable source of Energy.


This is another common misunderstanding.

Giving a character more Energy Recharge does not normally cause their Elemental Skill to generate additional particles.

So if you increase a battery character from 150% ER to 220% ER, you should not assume that character is now producing dramatically more Energy for the rest of the team.

The higher ER primarily helps that character gain more Energy from particles and orbs.

This distinction becomes especially important when you are trying to fix another character’s Burst uptime.

Not all Elemental Particles provide the same amount of Energy to every character.

A character gains more Energy from particles that match their own element than from particles of a different element.

For example, a Pyro character benefits more from Pyro Particles than from Hydro Particles under otherwise identical conditions.

This is one reason teams sometimes use a battery of the same element as an Energy-hungry character.

If your character has high ER but most of the particles being generated are from other elements, their Burst may still recharge more slowly than expected.

So when troubleshooting Energy problems, do not look only at:

How many particles am I generating?

Also ask:

What element are those particles?


Characters do not need to be on-field to receive Energy from particles.

However, the active character receives more Energy from a collected particle than off-field party members.

In a normal four-character party, off-field characters receive only part of the Energy they would receive if they were active.

This can make a major difference for characters with expensive Bursts.

Suppose your battery uses a Skill and creates particles.

If you leave the battery on-field while those particles arrive, your Burst-dependent character still receives some Energy while off-field—but less than if you had switched to that character and allowed them to receive the particles as the active character.

This is why particle funneling can be important.


Particles do not always reach your character instantly.

After using a Skill, there is often a short window before the generated particles travel to the active character.

You can use that time to switch characters.

A simple rotation might look like this:

  1. Character A uses an Elemental Skill.
  2. The Skill generates particles.
  3. You switch to Character B.
  4. Character B is active when the particles arrive.
  5. Character B receives the greater on-field Energy amount.

If Character B is the one struggling to recharge their Burst, this can be much more useful than leaving Character A on-field.

So sometimes the solution is not:

“I need another 30% ER.”

It is:

“I need to change who is on-field when the particles arrive.”


Not every Elemental Burst requires the same amount of Energy.

A character with a more expensive Burst naturally needs more Energy before that Burst becomes available.

This means two characters with identical Energy Recharge can have very different Burst uptime.

For example, comparing only:

Character A — 180% ER

and

Character B — 180% ER

does not tell you whether both can Burst every rotation.

You also need to consider:

  • Burst Energy Cost
  • Particle generation
  • Team composition
  • Rotation length
  • Same-element teammates
  • On-field and off-field Energy collection

ER should therefore be evaluated as part of the character’s entire Energy requirement—not as an isolated target number.


Sometimes the build is fine.

The rotation is not.

A team can theoretically generate enough Energy to sustain its Bursts but still fail in practice if Skills are used at inefficient times.

For example, you might:

  • Forget a second Skill use that becomes available later in the rotation.
  • Generate particles after the character who needs them has already left the field.
  • Use a Burst before collecting particles that could have helped the next rotation.
  • Stay too long on one character and delay other Skills.
  • Funnel particles into a character whose Burst is already full.

Small timing problems can accumulate across a rotation.

Before rebuilding your Artifacts around even more ER, try watching where your particles actually go during combat.


Suppose you have:

Character A — Battery — 220% ER

Character B — Main Burst user — 130% ER

Character A generates particles.

It is easy to assume that because the battery has 220% ER, Character B is receiving more Energy too.

That is not how it works.

Each character uses their own Energy Recharge when gaining Energy from particles and orbs.

Character A’s high ER helps Character A recharge.

Character B still uses Character B’s ER.

So if you stacked ER on the battery expecting it to solve Character B’s Energy problems, you may have increased the wrong character’s stat.

Favonius weapons can be extremely useful for Energy management because their passive can generate additional particles.

But simply equipping a Favonius weapon does not guarantee those particles will appear every time you want them.

The passive requires its activation condition to be met, including landing a CRIT hit, and it has its own cooldown.

If the character has very low CRIT Rate, does not land enough hits, or leaves the field before successfully triggering the effect, your actual Energy generation may be less consistent than expected.

This can create situations where your rotation works perfectly sometimes and fails to recharge a Burst at other times.

If your Energy setup depends heavily on Favonius, check whether its passive is actually triggering reliably.


Your own Skills are not the only possible source of particles and orbs.

Enemies can also drop Energy as their HP decreases.

That means a rotation may feel perfectly comfortable against a group of enemies but suddenly struggle against a different encounter.

For example, fighting several enemies may provide additional Energy during combat, while fighting a single target may provide fewer opportunities for those enemy Energy drops.

This can create a misleading impression:

“My ER was enough in the last fight, so why isn’t it enough now?”

Your character’s ER did not necessarily change.

The amount of Energy available during the encounter may have changed.

This is especially worth remembering when testing whether a build can reliably Burst every rotation.


None of this means Energy Recharge is unimportant.

If your character genuinely needs more ER, increasing it can absolutely improve Burst consistency.

The problem is assuming that every Burst uptime problem is automatically an ER problem.

Consider two situations.

Your character generates and receives plenty of particles but falls slightly short of their Burst each rotation.

More ER may be exactly what you need.

Your character barely receives any useful particles because your team generates too few, they remain off-field, and your rotation funnels Energy elsewhere.

Adding more ER may help somewhat, but the underlying problem remains.

The second situation is why some characters can feel Energy-starved even when their ER stat already looks high.


Test your character in the team and rotation you actually plan to use.

Ask:

  • Is the Burst ready when I need it?
  • Am I using my Skills consistently?
  • Is the team generating enough particles?
  • Are the particles matching my character’s element?
  • Is the correct character receiving the particles on-field?
  • Is my battery actually generating Energy reliably?
  • Are Favonius effects triggering consistently?
  • Does the problem happen only against certain enemies?
  • Am I consistently only a small amount of Energy short?

If everything else is working correctly and the Burst still falls short, increasing ER is reasonable.

But if several of those answers reveal problems, fixing the Energy flow may be more effective than simply stacking another ER Artifact.


Because 200% ER tells you only one part of the Energy equation.

It does not tell you:

  • How many particles your team generated.
  • Which element those particles were.
  • Who was on-field when they arrived.
  • How expensive the Burst is.
  • How often your Skills were used.
  • Whether your battery worked properly.
  • Whether additional Energy effects triggered.
  • Whether enemies supplied extra Energy.

This is why there is no universal ER percentage that guarantees every character will always have their Burst ready.

A character at 160% ER in a team with excellent Energy generation may have smoother Burst uptime than another character at 220% ER in a team that produces very little useful Energy.


If your Burst is not ready despite high Energy Recharge, check these in order:

Do not automatically start with “add more ER.”

Find out where the Energy is being lost first.


Because Energy Recharge cannot recharge a Burst without Energy coming in.

High ER makes the Energy gained from Elemental Particles and Orbs more effective, but Burst uptime still depends on how much Energy your team generates and how efficiently the character receives it.

If your Burst is consistently unavailable, check:

  • Particle generation
  • Same-element particles
  • On-field collection
  • Particle funneling
  • Your battery
  • Burst Energy Cost
  • Favonius activation
  • Your rotation

Then increase ER if your character still needs more.

The most useful rule to remember is:

High Energy Recharge improves the Energy you receive. It does not replace the need to generate and receive Energy in the first place.
