Reaching Adventure Rank 45 is one of the biggest progression milestones in Genshin Impact.
This is the point where serious Artifact farming becomes much more efficient, but it is also where many players make the mistake of spending nearly all of their Resin on Artifacts while neglecting other guaranteed upgrades.
Your characters still need ascensions, weapons, Talents, Mora, and EXP materials.
The key is knowing how to balance them.
The short answer is simple:
At AR 45–50, begin farming 5-star Artifacts for your core characters, but continue prioritizing guaranteed upgrades whenever your character levels, weapons, or important Talents are behind. Build functional Artifact sets first rather than chasing perfect pieces.
Here is what you should prioritize.
1. Make Sure Your Core Team Is Ready
Before spending large amounts of Resin on Artifacts, check the basic progression of your main team.
Your most important characters should have appropriate investment in:
- Character level and ascension
- Weapon level
- Important Talents
- Functional Artifacts
- Enough Energy Recharge to perform their role consistently
If one of these areas is severely underdeveloped, fixing it may provide more immediate value than farming another Artifact Domain.
Artifacts are important, but they cannot replace basic character progression.
2. Start Serious Artifact Farming
AR 45 is the major turning point for Artifact farming because the highest-level Artifact Domains guarantee at least one 5-star Artifact per run.
This makes your Original Resin significantly more efficient for Artifact farming than it was at lower Adventure Ranks.
Start with characters that contribute the most to your account.
A common priority is:
- Main damage dealer
- Important off-field damage dealer
- Core support
- Second damage dealer when needed
- Lower-priority supports later
You do not need complete optimized sets for your entire roster immediately.
Build one useful set at a time.
3. Choose Efficient Artifact Domains
Not every Artifact Domain provides the same value to your account.
Whenever possible, prioritize Domains where both available Artifact sets can be useful.
A Domain becomes even more valuable when several characters you use need pieces from it.
Before farming, ask:
- Can my main DPS use one of these sets?
- Can my supports use the other set?
- Do multiple characters need pieces from this Domain?
- Will these sets remain useful as my account grows?
Efficient Domain selection can save a large amount of Resin over time.
4. Focus on Main Stats Before Perfect Substats
When building your first serious Artifact sets, correct main stats are usually more important than perfect substats.
Depending on the character, you may be looking for stats such as:
- ATK%
- HP%
- DEF%
- Elemental Mastery
- Energy Recharge
- Elemental DMG Bonus
- CRIT Rate
- CRIT DMG
- Healing Bonus
Do not immediately discard every Artifact that lacks ideal substats.
A correct main-stat piece with a few useful substats can be perfectly suitable while you continue improving your account.
Build functional characters first.
Optimize them later.
5. Do Not Force a 4-Piece Set at Any Cost
Set bonuses are valuable, but forcing a complete set with poor Artifact stats can sometimes make a character weaker.
During your early AR 45 farming, it is completely reasonable to use strong individual pieces while waiting for better set pieces.
A good off-set Goblet or Circlet can remain useful for a very long time.
The goal is not to make your Artifact screen look perfect.
The goal is to improve actual character performance.
6. Continue Upgrading Important Talents
Artifact farming should not cause you to forget about Talents.
Talent upgrades provide guaranteed improvements and are often one of the most efficient ways to strengthen important abilities.
Focus on Talents that directly contribute to a character’s role.
For example:
- Main DPS characters may need several offensive Talents
- Off-field damage dealers may prioritize Skill or Burst
- Supports may only require one or two important Talents
Do not automatically level every Talent.
Spend materials where they provide meaningful value.
7. Keep Important Weapons Leveled
Weapon levels remain extremely important even after Artifact farming begins.
Unlike Artifacts, weapon upgrades provide predictable improvements.
If your main character is using an underleveled weapon, upgrading it may provide more reliable value than spending the same Resin hoping for a better Artifact.
Prioritize weapons used by:
- Main damage dealers
- Important off-field damage dealers
- Supports whose weapon stats are important to their role
Do not neglect weapon ascension materials simply because Artifact Domains are now available.
8. Use Fragile Resin Carefully
AR 45 is a reasonable point to begin using saved Fragile Resin.
However, that does not mean you should immediately spend everything.
Use Fragile Resin when you have a clear farming goal.
Good reasons may include:
- Building the first Artifact set for your main DPS
- Farming a highly efficient Domain
- Finishing important ascension materials
- Farming Talent materials needed for a major upgrade
- Preparing an important character quickly
Avoid spending large amounts simply because you finally reached AR 45.
Fragile Resin is flexible. Keeping some available can be useful later.
9. Keep Enough Mora Available
Artifact upgrading consumes a surprising amount of Mora.
At the same time, you still need Mora for:
- Character leveling
- Character ascensions
- Weapon upgrades
- Talent upgrades
- Artifact upgrades
This can quickly drain your resources.
If your Mora becomes too low, temporarily farming Blossoms of Wealth is completely reasonable.
There is little value in obtaining promising Artifacts if you cannot afford to upgrade them.
10. Be Selective When Upgrading Artifacts
You do not need to take every potentially useful Artifact to +20 immediately.
Artifact EXP is another limited resource.
Instead, upgrade promising pieces gradually.
If an Artifact repeatedly gains undesirable substats, you can stop investing in it and save your remaining resources for another piece.
Temporary Artifacts also do not always need to reach +20.
Invest according to how likely the piece is to remain useful.
11. Start Thinking About a Second Team
By AR 45–50, you may begin reaching content where having more than one functional team becomes useful.
However, this does not mean you should immediately build eight characters equally.
Finish the foundation of your primary team first.
Then gradually develop a second team using characters that:
- Already have some investment
- Can reuse available weapons
- Benefit from Artifact Domains you already farm
- Work well with characters you already own
Building the second team gradually prevents your resources from becoming too fragmented.
12. Use Unwanted Artifacts Efficiently
Artifact farming produces many pieces you will not use.
Do not feel obligated to keep everything.
Artifacts with poor main stats or little long-term value can eventually be used as EXP for stronger pieces.
As your Artifact inventory grows, becoming more selective will make inventory management easier.
However, avoid becoming too strict immediately.
At this stage, seemingly imperfect pieces can still be valuable while your account is developing.
AR 45–50 Priority Checklist
Highest Priority
- Begin serious 5-star Artifact farming
- Build functional sets for your core characters
- Prioritize correct Artifact main stats
- Continue important Talent upgrades
- Keep important weapons upgraded
- Maintain enough Mora
- Finish important character ascensions
- Spend Resin where it provides the most account value
Do Along the Way
- Farm Artifact Domains useful to multiple characters
- Save promising off-set pieces
- Upgrade Artifacts gradually
- Collect ascension materials
- Complete useful weekly bosses
- Begin planning a second team
- Keep some Fragile Resin available
Don’t Worry About Yet
- Perfect CRIT ratios
- Perfect Artifact substats
- +20 Artifacts on every support
- Fully optimizing every character
- Building every character you obtain
- Farming a separate Artifact set for every possible team
What Makes an Artifact Worth Keeping?
At this stage, Artifact evaluation should remain relatively flexible.
A piece may be worth keeping if it has:
- A useful main stat
- One or more relevant substats
- A valuable set
- A rare main-stat combination
- Potential use on another character
Goblets with useful Elemental DMG Bonus main stats and Circlets with CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG can be especially worth checking before using them as EXP.
Energy Recharge and Elemental Mastery pieces may also become valuable depending on your characters and teams.
Your standards can become stricter later as your Artifact collection improves.
When Should You Stop Farming an Artifact Domain?
You do not need perfect Artifacts before moving to another character.
Consider moving on when your important character has:
- The correct main stats
- A functional set or strong alternative pieces
- Enough Energy Recharge for consistent rotations
- Reasonable offensive or support stats
- No major weak Artifact slot preventing them from performing their role
At that point, spending thousands of additional Resin chasing small improvements may provide less account value than improving another character.
You can always return later.
Should You Farm Artifacts or Talents First?
If your important Talents are significantly underleveled, Talent farming often provides more predictable value.
Artifacts involve RNG.
Talent upgrades do not.
A useful general approach is to secure important guaranteed upgrades first and then spend your remaining Resin improving Artifacts.
Once your character levels, weapon, and key Talents are in a good position, Artifact farming becomes much easier to justify.
Final Advice
AR 45–50 is where Artifact farming becomes a major part of Genshin Impact progression, but it should not become your only goal.
The biggest mistake is chasing perfect Artifacts while leaving guaranteed upgrades unfinished.
Build functional Artifact sets first.
Keep your important characters, weapons, and Talents progressing alongside them.
As your core team becomes stronger, gradually expand into a second team and improve weaker Artifact slots one at a time.
The goal at AR 45–50 is not to create perfect characters. It is to build a strong account foundation that makes future optimization easier and more efficient.
