Adventure Rank 50–55 is where Genshin Impact progression begins shifting from basic character building toward long-term account improvement.
By this point, you may already have several leveled characters, usable 5-star Artifacts, upgraded weapons, and a functional main team.
However, resources are still limited.
Trying to perfect every character at once can consume enormous amounts of Original Resin while providing relatively small improvements.
The short answer is simple:
At AR 50–55, finish the guaranteed upgrades on your most important characters, improve weak Artifact slots gradually, develop a reliable second team, and spend Resin where it provides the greatest improvement to your overall account.
Here is what you should prioritize.
1. Finish Important Character Ascensions
At AR 50, the final character ascension becomes available.
However, unlocking the final ascension does not mean every character immediately needs to reach Level 90.
Prioritize final ascensions for characters that benefit significantly from the additional levels, ascension stats, or higher Talent limits.
Your most important characters should generally receive resources first.
This may include:
- Main damage dealers
- Frequently used off-field damage dealers
- Characters whose damage scales strongly with level
- Reaction-focused characters that benefit from higher character levels
- Core supports you use across multiple teams
Avoid automatically taking every character to Level 90 simply because the option is available.
2. Understand Which Characters Benefit Most From Level 90
The value of Level 90 differs significantly between characters.
Characters whose damage depends heavily on transformative or level-sensitive reactions can benefit considerably from additional character levels.
Characters scaling primarily from HP or DEF may also gain more from Level 90 than traditional ATK-scaling characters.
For some ATK-based damage dealers, ascending to 80/90 and improving Talents, weapons, or Artifacts may provide better value than immediately leveling all the way to 90.
Before spending large amounts of Character EXP and Mora, consider what actually improves the character.
3. Upgrade Important Weapons to Level 90
Weapons are generally one of the safest long-term investments on your account.
Unlike Artifacts, weapon upgrades do not depend on RNG.
Level 90 weapons provide higher Base ATK or other scaling stats and can often be transferred between characters.
Prioritize:
- Weapons used by your main DPS characters
- Weapons used by important off-field damage dealers
- Weapons with broadly useful effects
- Weapons you expect to use long-term
A strong Level 90 weapon can remain useful even when your team composition changes.
4. Raise Your Most Valuable Talents
By AR 50–55, your core characters should begin having well-developed important Talents.
However, you still do not need to maximize everything.
Focus on abilities that contribute directly to each character’s role.
For example:
- Main DPS characters may benefit from multiple high-level Talents
- Off-field damage dealers may primarily need Skill or Burst
- Supports may only need one important ability
- Some characters gain very little from leveling Normal Attacks
Talent upgrades are guaranteed improvements.
If an important Talent is still relatively low, upgrading it may provide better value than repeatedly farming Artifacts for a small statistical improvement.
5. Improve Your Weakest Artifact Slots First
Once your characters have functional Artifact sets, stop treating every Artifact slot equally.
Identify the weakest piece on each important character.
For example, you may already have:
- A strong Flower
- A strong Feather
- A usable Sands
- A poor Goblet
- A weak Circlet
In that situation, improving the Goblet or Circlet provides a clearer goal than replacing every Artifact.
Targeting weak slots helps prevent endless farming without a clear objective.
6. Stop Chasing Perfect Artifacts
Perfect Artifacts are extremely rare.
A character does not need five near-perfect pieces to perform well.
Once a character has:
- Correct main stats
- Enough Energy Recharge
- Useful set bonuses
- Reasonable CRIT or relevant scaling stats
- No major weak slots
consider shifting your Resin elsewhere.
The Resin required to turn a good Artifact set into an exceptional one can be much greater than the Resin required to substantially improve another character.
Account-wide improvement is usually more valuable at this stage.
7. Build a Reliable Second Team
AR 50–55 is a good stage to seriously develop your second team.
Your first team should already be functional enough to handle most regular content.
Instead of continuing to pour every resource into small improvements for that team, begin strengthening another group of characters.
When choosing a second team, look for characters that:
- Use Artifacts you already own
- Benefit from Domains you already farm
- Can share flexible support characters
- Use weapons already available on your account
- Cover different elements or reactions from your first team
Efficient roster expansion is much easier than building an entirely separate collection of characters from zero.
8. Invest More in Flexible Supports
Some characters can fit into many different teams.
These characters are especially valuable because improving them strengthens several possible team compositions rather than only one.
Flexible supports may provide:
- Healing
- Shielding
- Buffs
- Resistance reduction
- Elemental application
- Energy generation
- Crowd control
- Off-field damage
When deciding between improving a highly specialized character and a support used across several teams, the flexible character may provide greater account-wide value.
9. Pay Attention to Energy Recharge
As teams become more optimized, Energy Recharge becomes increasingly important.
A character with impressive offensive stats may still perform poorly if their Elemental Burst is unavailable when needed.
When evaluating Artifacts, do not focus only on CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG.
Consider whether each character can perform their intended rotation consistently.
Depending on the team, Energy Recharge can be more valuable than additional offensive substats.
A slightly weaker-looking build that produces reliable rotations may perform better in actual combat.
10. Farm Artifact Domains With Multiple Useful Sets
Artifact Domain efficiency becomes increasingly important as your roster expands.
If a Domain contains sets useful for several characters, almost every farming session has a better chance of producing something valuable.
Before committing large amounts of Resin, consider:
- How many characters can use the first set?
- How many characters can use the second set?
- Can useful pieces be transferred to future characters?
- Are you farming only for one extremely specific upgrade?
The more characters that can benefit from a Domain, the greater its long-term account value.
11. Keep Useful Off-Set Artifacts
Do not automatically discard strong Artifacts simply because they belong to a set you currently do not use.
Characters normally have room for one off-set Artifact while maintaining a 4-piece set bonus.
Strong Goblets, Circlets, and Sands can therefore remain valuable for a long time.
Keep pieces with:
- Rare or useful main stats
- Strong CRIT combinations
- Useful Energy Recharge
- Elemental Mastery
- Flexible offensive stats
- Useful HP or DEF stats for appropriate characters
Your future characters may also benefit from pieces that currently have no obvious owner.
12. Manage Weekly Boss Farming
Weekly bosses provide important Talent materials and other useful rewards.
However, you do not necessarily need to farm every weekly boss every week.
Prioritize bosses that provide materials required by characters you are actively building or expect to build soon.
As your stockpile grows, you can reduce unnecessary runs and spend that Resin elsewhere.
The goal is to maintain useful materials without automatically farming content you no longer need.
13. Build a Healthy Mora Reserve
Late-game upgrades consume enormous amounts of Mora.
High Talent levels, Level 90 weapons, character ascensions, character levels, and Artifact upgrades can quickly drain millions of Mora.
Do not wait until your Mora reaches zero.
When your immediate farming goals are complete, using some Resin on Mora Ley Lines can help maintain a useful reserve.
Having Mora available allows you to immediately use valuable upgrade materials when you obtain them.
14. Do Not Spread Resources Across Your Entire Roster
By AR 50–55, you may own many characters.
That does not mean all of them need to be built.
Divide your roster mentally into groups:
- Core characters you regularly use
- Characters you are actively building
- Situational characters you may build later
- Characters you currently have no reason to invest in
This prevents new characters from constantly interrupting your existing progression.
Finish important projects before starting several new ones.

Should You Level Characters to 90?
Not every character needs Level 90.
The value depends on how the character deals damage and which stats their abilities use.
Level 90 tends to be more valuable for characters that benefit strongly from character level, including many reaction-focused characters and characters scaling from HP or DEF.
For other characters, 80/90 may already provide most of the important benefits while allowing you to spend EXP and Mora elsewhere.
Instead of using one rule for every character, evaluate the benefit individually.
When Is an Artifact Build Good Enough?
There is no universal CRIT ratio or stat threshold that determines when every character is finished.
A more useful question is whether the character can reliably perform their intended role.
A build may already be good enough when:
- The correct main stats are equipped
- The important set bonus is active
- Energy requirements are satisfied
- Damage or support performance is consistent
- No Artifact slot is dramatically weaker than the others
Once these conditions are met, improving another character may provide greater value than continuing to chase small upgrades.
Should You Build More Characters or Improve Existing Ones?
At AR 50–55, both are important.
If your primary characters still have major weaknesses, fix those first.
However, once your first team is strong and your second team is functional, expanding your roster can provide more flexibility than endlessly optimizing the same characters.
New characters can give you access to:
- Different elemental reactions
- Different damage types
- Alternative team compositions
- Better solutions for specific enemies
- More flexible endgame teams
The goal is to gradually move from having a few strong characters toward having a flexible account.
Final Advice
AR 50–55 is where efficient progression becomes more important than simply farming more.
Your account should gradually shift from one heavily invested team toward multiple strong, flexible characters.
Finish guaranteed upgrades before spending enormous amounts of Resin chasing small Artifact improvements.
Level important weapons, raise valuable Talents, develop your second team, and improve weak Artifact slots gradually.
Most importantly, learn when a character is already strong enough.
A balanced account with several well-built characters is usually more useful than one perfect character surrounded by an underdeveloped roster.
