Does Energy Recharge Work While a Character Is Off-Field in Genshin Impact?

If a character spends most of a fight off-field, you may wonder whether building Energy Recharge on them is actually useful.

After all, another character is usually the one on-screen when Energy Particles are collected.

So does an off-field character still benefit from their own Energy Recharge?

Yes. Energy Recharge still works while a character is off-field.

When Elemental Particles or Orbs provide Energy to your party, off-field characters can receive Energy too. Each character uses their own Energy Recharge stat when determining how much Energy they gain.

However, there is an important difference:

Off-field characters receive less base Energy from particles and orbs than the active character.

That difference is one reason off-field characters can still need significant Energy Recharge even though they spend very little time on the field.

A matching Elemental Particle provides:

With 200% ER:

So the ER works in both situations.

What changes is the base Energy received because the character is on-field or off-field.

If your character has 200% ER, the game does not change their stat to 120% ER simply because they leave the field.

The distinction is important.

The character still has:

200% Energy Recharge

but the base Energy they receive from a particle is lower while they are off-field.

Think of the process as two separate factors:

Being off-field affects the first part.

  • Important Skills are being skipped.
  • The character needs to receive some particles on-field.
  • Your rotation is delaying Energy-generating Skills.

High ER helps with incoming Energy, but it cannot compensate indefinitely for a team that generates very little useful Energy.

The particle and orb system described above should not be confused with every mechanic that directly restores Energy.
