IIf you use a character as a battery in Genshin Impact, it may seem logical to give that character more Energy Recharge so they can provide more Energy to the rest of the team.
For example, if Fischl is helping Beidou recharge her Burst, would giving Fischl more Energy Recharge also help Beidou get her Burst back faster?
No. A battery character’s Energy Recharge does not directly increase the Energy received by other characters.
Energy Recharge is applied individually to the character receiving Energy. Increasing your battery’s ER helps that battery recharge its own Elemental Burst faster, but it does not make the Energy Particles it generates more valuable to its teammates.
Understanding this distinction makes batteries, Energy Particles, and team rotations much easier to manage.
What Does a Battery Do in Genshin Impact?
A battery is a character that helps another character recharge their Elemental Burst by generating Energy Particles.
This is especially useful for characters with expensive Bursts or characters that cannot generate enough Energy consistently by themselves.
A battery often:
- Uses an Elemental Skill to generate Energy Particles.
- Shares an element with the character who needs Energy.
- Generates particles frequently.
- Allows another character to collect those particles.

Whose Energy Recharge Matters When a Particle Is Collected?
The character receiving the Energy uses their own Energy Recharge.

Imagine Character A uses a Skill and generates Energy Particles.
Character B needs Energy for their Burst.
If those particles provide Energy to Character B, the game uses Character B’s Energy Recharge, not Character A’s.
Character A’s ER does not get attached to the particles when they are created.

Does More Energy Recharge Make a Battery Generate More Particles?
No.
Increasing Energy Recharge does not normally increase the number of Energy Particles generated by a character’s Elemental Skill.
If a Skill generates a particular amount of Energy Particles, giving that character more ER does not turn those particles into additional particles.

Why Do Battery Characters Still Sometimes Build Energy Recharge?
Because the battery may need to recharge its own Burst too.
A character can serve as a battery for a teammate while also having an important Elemental Burst of their own.
In that situation, Energy Recharge can still be valuable.
The distinction is:
ER helps the battery recharge itself.
It does not directly make the battery’s particles recharge its teammates more.
So seeing ER recommended on a battery character does not mean ER is improving the Energy they generate for everyone else.
It may simply be necessary for that character’s own rotation.

If a character struggles to recharge their Burst consistently, increasing that character’s own Energy Recharge can help.
Because each character’s ER affects the Energy they receive, the character with the expensive Burst is often the one whose ER requirement matters most.

Burst availability can also depend on:
- Burst Energy Cost
- How many particles the team generates
- How often Skills are used

Why Does Sharing the Same Element Help?
Energy Particles are more effective when their element matches the character receiving them.
This is one reason batteries often share an element with the character they support.
For example, an Electro character that generates Electro Particles can be particularly useful for another Electro character who needs Energy.
The important point is that this advantage comes from the element of the particles, not from transferring the battery’s Energy Recharge stat.
So:
Same-element particles can improve Energy generation for the target character.
But:
The battery’s ER does not transfer with those particles.
These are two separate mechanics.
Does the Battery Need to Catch Its Own Particles?
Not necessarily.
This is where particle funneling becomes useful.
After a character uses an Elemental Skill, the Energy Particles usually take a moment to reach the active character.
That can give you time to switch characters.

- The Skill generates Energy Particles.
- You switch to the character whose Burst needs Energy.

This is one reason rotations and particle funneling can make a noticeable difference when trying to recharge a particular Burst.

Example: Battery With High ER vs Target With High ER
Consider a simple example.
You have:
Character A — Battery — 200% ER
Character B — Burst-dependent DPS — 120% ER
Character A generates particles for the team.
Giving Character A 200% ER helps Character A gain more Energy when Energy is received.
But Character B does not suddenly receive Energy using Character A’s 200% ER.
Character B still uses its own 120% ER.
Now imagine you change the builds:
Character A — Battery — 150% ER
Character B — Burst-dependent DPS — 170% ER
Assuming the same particles are generated and collected under the same conditions, Character B can now gain more Energy because Character B’s own ER increased.
That is the key distinction.
Does a Battery With 200% ER Give More Energy Than One With 100% ER?
Not simply because of the ER stat.
If both builds:
- Use the same Skill
- Generate the same particles
- Use the same weapon effects
- Have the same relevant abilities
- Follow the same rotation
then raising the battery’s ER alone does not make those generated particles contain more Energy for another character.
The battery’s higher ER helps the battery itself receive more Energy.
If the goal is specifically to improve another character’s Burst uptime, you need to look at the entire Energy setup rather than only the battery’s ER number.
What Actually Makes a Good Battery?
A useful battery is generally a character that can reliably generate the Energy your team needs.
Depending on the team, useful factors can include:
- Frequent particle generation
- Short Skill cooldowns
- Same-element particle generation
- Easy particle funneling
- Favonius weapon activation
- Additional Energy-generating abilities
- A rotation that lets the Energy-hungry character receive particles
Notice that extremely high Energy Recharge on the battery is not automatically on that list.
A battery may still need plenty of ER for its own Burst, but that is a separate build requirement.
What About Favonius Weapons?
Favonius weapons are a good example of why Energy generation and Energy Recharge are different mechanics.
A Favonius weapon can generate additional Energy Particles when its passive is triggered.
That can directly help the team because there are now additional particles available.
Increasing the character’s ER, by comparison, does not itself cause their normal Skill to suddenly generate more particles.
So when evaluating a battery, ask two different questions:
How much Energy can this character generate for the team?
and
How much ER does this character personally need?
They are related to the same Energy system, but they are not the same thing.
Why Is My Battery Not Fixing My Energy Problems?
If you added a battery but your other character still cannot use their Burst consistently, check more than the battery’s ER.
Possible reasons include:
- The battery does not generate enough particles.
- You are not using the battery’s Skill often enough.
- The target character has too little ER.
- The target has a high Burst Energy Cost.
- Particles are being collected by the wrong character.
- Your rotation does not allow proper particle funneling.
- The battery and target use different elements.
- You are expecting the battery’s ER to transfer to the target.
Increasing the battery’s ER may solve the battery’s own Energy problem while doing very little for the teammate you were actually trying to help.
Should You Stack Energy Recharge on Your Battery?
Only if the battery itself needs that much ER.
Do not stack ER on a battery solely because you assume:
more battery ER = more Energy for everyone
That is not how the stat works.
Instead, build enough ER for the battery to perform its own role and use its Burst when needed.
Then consider the target character’s ER, particle generation, team composition, and rotation separately.
This prevents you from sacrificing useful stats on the battery for ER that does not accomplish what you intended.

- The number and element of particles being generated

Energy Recharge belongs to the character receiving the Energy—not to the character that generated the particle.
