How Do Haunted Sites Work?
Haunted Sites are optional open-world activities built around places where people died violently.
When you reach one, use Focus Mode to inspect the scene. The relevant bodies are highlighted, helping you identify which corpses are connected to the haunting.
You will need to investigate the bodies and find the note associated with the site before performing the exorcism.
Then use Astral Communion to summon the spirits.
Defeat the spectral enemies that appear and loot the reward chest to finish the Haunted Site.
Can You Complete Haunted Sites at Night?
No. Haunted Sites need to be completed during the day.
If you arrive at night while Coen is in his vampire form, you cannot perform the required exorcism.
You can still remember or mark the location and return later, but the actual Haunted Site activity needs Coen’s human form.
If you are planning to clear several Haunted Sites, it is therefore better to group them with other daytime activities.
Do Haunted Sites Cost Time?
Yes. Performing an exorcism costs one Time Segment.
Simply traveling to a Haunted Site and exploring the surrounding area does not automatically spend a Time Segment.
The time cost comes from completing the exorcism itself.
Since there are four Haunted Sites:
- 1 Haunted Site: 1 Time Segment
- 2 Haunted Sites: 2 Time Segments
- All 4 Haunted Sites: 4 Time Segments

The Haunted Site is located before reaching the nearby Tatzelwurm Lair, which can serve as another useful landmark if you have already uncovered that part of the map.
Use Focus Mode when you reach the bodies to begin investigating the haunting.
Mass Grave Rewards

Where Is the River Massacre Haunted Site?
The River Massacre is located along the riverbed south of the Ruined Hut Shrine.
If you have progressed Buried Past, you may already recognize the area because it is also associated with your encounter with Volk.
Head toward the riverbed and use Focus Mode to locate the bodies connected to the Haunted Site.
Complete the investigation, perform Astral Communion, and defeat the summoned spirits.
River Massacre Rewards
The main rewards include:
- Soul Reaping Manual
- Grayrock Blade
The Grayrock Blade is an Epic weapon.
If you have not obtained Soul Reaping from the Mass Grave, River Massacre provides another opportunity to acquire the manual.
Where Is the Destroyed Caravan Haunted Site?
The Destroyed Caravan is located in Tantari Woods, west of Howling Keep.
Howling Keep is a useful landmark because it is the large estate associated with Xanthe’s storyline.
From Howling Keep, travel west and search for the remains of the destroyed caravan.
Once you find the bodies, use Focus Mode and complete the usual Haunted Site investigation before using Astral Communion.
Destroyed Caravan Rewards
Completing the Destroyed Caravan can reward:
- Unholy Vitality Manual
- Nature’s Bane
Nature’s Bane is an Epic ring.
If you already obtained the Unholy Vitality Manual from the Site of Crucifixion, the additional equipment reward is likely to be the more interesting reason to complete this site.
Which Haunted Sites Should You Do First?
You do not need to complete the Haunted Sites in a specific order.
If you are mainly interested in their unique equipment, the locations are easier to prioritize by reward:
- Mass Grave: Tough Leather Boots
- River Massacre: Grayrock Blade
- Destroyed Caravan: Nature’s Bane
- Site of Crucifixion: Unholy Vitality Manual
The two Witchcraft Manuals also appear at more than one Haunted Site:

- Soul Reaping: Mass Grave / River Massacre
So if you are short on Time Segments and only want a particular Witchcraft Manual, you do not necessarily need to clear all four sites immediately.

How Do You Find Haunted Sites on the Map?
Haunted Sites are represented by a white skull icon once discovered.
If you do not want to search Vale Sangora blindly, use the Towers scattered around the world to reveal nearby points of interest.
Scouting from a Tower can place question marks on the map.
Travel to those question marks to identify what they represent. If the location turns out to be a Haunted Site, its proper icon will then make it easier to return when you are ready to complete it.
Why Can’t I Complete a Haunted Site?
If you have found a Haunted Site but cannot finish it, first check whether you arrived during the day.
Then make sure you have completed the entire interaction sequence:
- Use Focus Mode.
- Investigate the relevant bodies.
- Find the associated note.
- Use Astral Communion on the correct body.
- Defeat all summoned spirits.
- Loot the reward chest.
Simply discovering the location or inspecting one body does not complete the activity.
If nothing seems to happen, check the bodies again with Focus Mode before leaving the area.
Are Haunted Sites the Same as Ancient Circles?
No. Haunted Sites and Ancient Circles are separate open-world activities.
Both involve supernatural elements and are completed during the day, so they can initially seem similar.
Haunted Sites revolve around:

- Fighting summoned spirits
Ancient Circles use their own locations and interaction mechanics.
