Snezhnaya is finally open for exploration in Genshin Impact.
Introduced with Version 7.0 on August 12, 2026, the long-awaited Nation of Cryo takes Travelers into the frozen northern reaches of Teyvat and begins a new stage of the game’s main journey.
But Snezhnaya is more than another large region to explore. New transportation, environmental mechanics, exploration tools, enemies, puzzles, and other regional features give the nation its own identity.
Here’s what Travelers can expect when exploring Snezhnaya.
Snezhnaya Is the Nation of Cryo
Snezhnaya is one of Teyvat’s seven major nations and is closely associated with Cryo, the Tsaritsa, and the Fatui.
Players have encountered characters and organizations connected to Snezhnaya since the earliest parts of Genshin Impact, but Version 7.0 finally allows Travelers to explore the nation itself.
The region presents a much colder environment than most previously explored parts of Teyvat, combining vast frozen landscapes with settlements, machinery, transportation networks, and locations connected to the Fatui.
New Areas Open in Version 7.0
Version 7.0 opens the first major explorable areas of Snezhnaya.
Rather than treating Snezhnaya as a single location, the new nation contains multiple distinct areas with their own terrain, landmarks, enemies, puzzles, and exploration challenges.
Among the new areas introduced with the region are:
- Volkodlak Tundra
- White Birch Snowgrave
- Everfrozen Earth
- Flamefeather Valley
- Fellfrost Peak
These areas form the beginning of Snezhnaya’s explorable territory, giving players a large new part of the world to uncover.
As with previous major nations, Version 7.0 represents the beginning of Snezhnaya rather than a reason to assume every part of the nation has already been released.
You Can Reach Snezhnaya Without Finishing Every Previous Region
Players returning to Genshin Impact do not necessarily need to finish every later regional storyline before they can begin exploring Snezhnaya.
After completing the Mondstadt Archon Quest Prologue: Act III – “Song of the Dragon and Freedom,” a Teleport Waypoint providing access toward Snezhnaya becomes available.
This allows eligible players to reach the new region even if they still have unfinished story content elsewhere in Teyvat.
The main Snezhnaya storyline has its own progression requirements, however, so being able to physically enter the region does not mean every quest or feature will immediately be available.
Trains Are a Major Part of Snezhnaya Exploration
One of Snezhnaya’s most distinctive additions is its railway system.
Instead of relying entirely on running, climbing, gliding, and Teleport Waypoints, Travelers can use trains to move through parts of the region.
The railway connects different locations across Snezhnaya and helps establish a different sense of scale and travel compared with earlier nations.
Trains are also more than background scenery. Snezhnaya includes gameplay and interactions built around the railway system, making it part of the region’s exploration experience.
The Eye of Graeae Introduces New Exploration Mechanics
Travelers exploring Snezhnaya gain access to the Eye of Graeae, a regional exploration tool.
It plays an important role in interacting with Snezhnaya’s environment and mechanics.
The Eye of Graeae is connected to several regional systems, including interactions involving Prime Ice Constructs.
These constructs can take different forms and help players navigate the environment, interact with mechanisms, and solve puzzles.
HoYoWiki’s current Snezhnaya tutorials include several types of Prime Ice Constructs, including grappling mechanisms, platforms, blockade spikes, and snowball-related devices.
This makes the Eye of Graeae one of the key tools to understand while exploring the new nation.
Snezhnaya Adds New Environmental Puzzles
The new region introduces a variety of mechanics built around ice, snow, machinery, and unusual environmental interactions.
Travelers may encounter features involving:
- Prime Ice Constructs
- Fractured ice surfaces
- Meltable ice and snow
- Shadow Realm barriers and vaults
- Grappling mechanisms
- Snowball launchers
- Specialized regional mechanisms
Some of these mechanics are used for traversal, while others are tied to puzzles, hidden areas, or rewards.
The variety of new tutorials currently listed for Snezhnaya reflects how many region-specific mechanics have been added with the new territory.
Firearms Appear in Snezhnaya Gameplay
Snezhnaya also introduces gameplay involving firearms.
The region includes mechanics for shooting, taking cover, and using firearm workbenches. Official HoYoWiki tutorials for Snezhnaya include dedicated entries for both Firearm Workbench and Cover & Firing from Cover Mechanics.
These mechanics do not replace Genshin Impact’s normal elemental combat system. Instead, they appear as specialized gameplay connected to Snezhnaya content.
It is another example of Version 7.0 giving the new nation mechanics that feel noticeably different from traditional exploration elsewhere in Teyvat.
New Enemies and Local Legends Await
Exploring Snezhnaya also means encountering an entirely new group of enemies.
The region includes creatures and hostile forces such as Volkodlak enemies, new mechanical or supernatural opponents, and other enemies associated with the frozen nation.
Three new Local Legends also appear among Snezhnaya’s new enemies:
- Bandersnatch
- Churin
- Furiosa
These enemies are currently listed in HoYoWiki alongside the wider selection of creatures introduced with the new region.
Players exploring beyond the main paths can therefore expect considerably more than new scenery and quests.
Snezhnaya Begins a New Chapter of Teyvat
Snezhnaya has been part of Genshin Impact’s worldbuilding for years, particularly through the Fatui and characters originating from the nation.
Version 7.0 finally turns that distant nation into a place Travelers can explore directly.
Its frozen landscapes, railway system, Eye of Graeae mechanics, Prime Ice Constructs, firearms, new enemies, and environmental puzzles give the region a distinct style while opening another major chapter of Teyvat.
And with Version 7.0 marking the beginning of Snezhnaya’s explorable content, there is still room for the nation to continue expanding through future updates.
