The Traveler can finally resonate with Cryo in Genshin Impact.
Introduced with Version 7.0, the Cryo Traveler becomes available as the journey moves into Snezhnaya, giving the protagonist another elemental form alongside their previous powers.
This time, however, the Traveler’s new element is closely connected to one of Version 7.0’s biggest combat additions: the Stellar Glimmer reaction system.
Here’s what changes when the Traveler resonates with Cryo.
Cryo Traveler at a Glance
The Cryo Traveler’s basic details are:
- Rarity: 5-star
- Element: Cryo
- Weapon: Sword
- Introduced: Version 7.0
- Region: Snezhnaya
- Combat Focus: Stellar Glimmer reactions
- Possible Roles: On-field DPS / Off-field damage / Quick-swap
Unlike a newly obtained character, Cryo Traveler is another elemental form of the protagonist players already have.
The new form becomes available through Snezhnaya and is designed specifically around the Stellar mechanics introduced with Version 7.0.
How to Unlock Cryo Traveler
Cryo becomes available after the Traveler reaches Snezhnaya and resonates with Cryo at a Statue of The Seven.
Version 7.0 makes reaching Snezhnaya relatively accessible even for players who have not completed every previous Archon Quest.
After completing Prologue: Act III – “Song of the Dragon and Freedom,” a Teleport Waypoint southwest of Volkodlak Tundra is automatically unlocked, allowing eligible players to travel toward Snezhnaya.
The new Snezhnaya Archon Quest itself is available from Adventure Rank 18 after completing that same Mondstadt Archon Quest.
Cryo Traveler Can Enable Stellar Glimmer Reactions
The biggest difference between Cryo Traveler and many previous Traveler forms is their connection to Stellar Glimmer.
When Cryo Traveler is in the party, the team can access the two Stellar reactions available in Version 7.0:
- Stellar-Conduct
- Stellar Swirl
This allows Cryo Traveler to participate in the same new reaction system that plays an important role in the kits of Snezhnaya characters such as Odette.
The two reactions also lead Cryo Traveler toward different combat roles rather than locking the character into a single playstyle.
Stellar-Conduct Can Turn Cryo Traveler Into an On-Field DPS
Cryo Traveler can take a more active role in teams built around Stellar-Conduct.
According to the official Version 7.0 description, the Traveler can serve as an on-field damage dealer while in the Radiance: Stellar-Conduct state.
This means the Cryo form is not limited to quickly using an ability and immediately leaving the field.
Instead, Stellar-Conduct teams can give the Traveler a more central combat role, allowing them to stay active and contribute directly to the team’s damage.
Stellar Swirl Supports an Off-Field Playstyle
Cryo Traveler can also take a different approach in Stellar Swirl teams.
Rather than remaining on-field, the Traveler can contribute damage from off-field and work within quick-swap rotations.
That gives the Cryo form considerably more flexibility than a character designed around only one fixed role.
Depending on the reaction being used and the rest of the party, Cryo Traveler can shift between a more active damage-dealing role and an off-field supporting role.
Cryo Traveler Works With Odette’s Stellar Mechanics
Cryo Traveler and Odette share an important connection: both can enable parties to use Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl.
Odette specializes in supporting Stellar reactions while providing off-field Cryo application and increasing the party’s Stellar Glimmer damage.
Cryo Traveler offers another way for players to access these new mechanics without requiring the party to rely entirely on a limited 5-star character.
This makes the Traveler particularly useful as an introduction to Version 7.0’s new reaction system.
Version 7.0 Also Adds a New 5-Star Sword for the Traveler
Cryo is not the only new addition for the Traveler in Version 7.0.
Progressing through the Snezhnaya Archon Quest also allows players to obtain the new 5-star Sword Exaiphanes Blade.
The weapon is obtainable through Archon Quest progression rather than a limited weapon banner, giving the Traveler another piece of equipment connected directly to the Snezhnaya storyline.
This makes Version 7.0 an unusually significant update for the protagonist, adding both a new elemental form and a new 5-star weapon.
Cryo Traveler Is More Than Another Elemental Form
Previous regions have expanded the Traveler’s available elements as the journey through Teyvat continued.
Cryo follows that tradition, but Version 7.0 gives the new form an especially strong connection to Snezhnaya’s new combat mechanics.
Cryo Traveler can:
- Resonate with Cryo in Snezhnaya
- Enable Stellar-Conduct
- Enable Stellar Swirl
- Deal damage from off-field
- Work in quick-swap rotations
- Function as an on-field DPS through Stellar-Conduct
- Obtain a new 5-star Sword through Archon Quest progression
That flexibility makes Cryo Traveler one of the more substantial additions to the protagonist’s combat options so far.
More importantly, the new form gives every player a way to begin experimenting with the Stellar Glimmer system introduced as part of Genshin Impact Version 7.0.
