Original Resin is one of the most valuable resources in Genshin Impact because it limits how many progression rewards you can farm each day.
The problem is that almost everything seems to need Resin.
Characters need boss materials. Weapons and Talents require Domain materials. Artifacts can consume enormous amounts of Resin, and Mora or Character EXP can disappear quickly when building several characters.
So what should you spend Resin on first?
The short answer is:
Spend Resin on guaranteed upgrades that your active characters currently need, then move toward Artifacts once the important character, weapon, and Talent upgrades are complete.
The best Resin priority depends on what is currently limiting your account.
1. Think in Terms of Your Next Upgrade
Instead of asking:
“What is the best thing to farm with Resin?”
ask:
“What is preventing my character from becoming stronger right now?”
For example, you may need:
- A boss material for the next ascension
- Weapon ascension materials
- Talent books
- Mora
- Character EXP
- Better Artifacts
Your Resin should usually solve the most important current bottleneck.
There is no single Domain that every account should farm every day.
2. Prioritize Guaranteed Progress First
Some Resin activities provide predictable progress.
If you need three more boss materials for an ascension, farming the boss directly moves you toward that goal.
The same applies to:
- Weapon ascension materials
- Talent materials
- Mora
- Character EXP
Artifacts work differently.
You can spend Resin on an Artifact Domain and receive nothing that improves your current build.
For that reason, guaranteed upgrades usually deserve priority when important ones are still unfinished.
3. Character Ascension Materials Are Usually a High Priority
Character ascension unlocks higher character levels and can also unlock additional progression for Talents.
If an important character is stuck because they cannot ascend, the required world boss should usually become one of your immediate Resin targets.
Prioritize ascension materials for:
- Your main damage dealers
- Important reaction triggers
- Frequently used supports
- Characters whose level strongly affects their role
You do not need to ascend every character you own.
Focus on characters you actually use.
4. Weapon Upgrades Are Reliable Progress
Weapon levels are another predictable way to improve a character.
If your main character is using an underleveled weapon, spending Resin on the necessary weapon ascension materials can often provide more reliable value than gambling on Artifact upgrades.
Weapon materials are also easier to plan because their Domain availability follows a schedule.
If the material you need is available today, it may be worth prioritizing before returning to less predictable farming.
5. Level the Talents That Actually Matter
Talents can provide significant improvements, but you do not need to level every Talent equally.
Identify which abilities are responsible for the character’s main role.
For example:
- An on-field attacker may rely heavily on Normal Attacks
- An off-field DPS may primarily need their Skill or Burst
- A support may only need the Talent connected to their buff or utility
Spend Resin on Talent materials that produce meaningful improvements.
Do not farm Talent books simply because a character has three Talents available to level.
6. Mora Is Worth Farming When It Becomes a Bottleneck
Mora is required for almost every form of progression.
You spend it on:
- Character levels
- Weapons
- Talents
- Artifacts
- Ascensions
If you have the materials for an upgrade but cannot afford it, Mora becomes your current bottleneck.
At that point, spending Resin on Blossoms of Wealth is completely reasonable.
Do not think of Mora Ley Lines as wasted Resin simply because they do not directly increase a stat.
If Mora is preventing several guaranteed upgrades, farming it is productive.
7. Character EXP Is Similar to Mora
Character EXP materials are another resource that becomes valuable when you actually need them.
If you have enough Hero’s Wit and other EXP materials for your planned characters, there is little reason to farm more immediately.
But if a character needs levels before their next ascension or important reaction damage depends on increasing their level, Blossoms of Revelation can become a high priority.
Again, farm according to the bottleneck.
8. When Should Artifacts Become the Priority?
Artifacts become a higher priority once the important guaranteed upgrades are already in a good place.
For example, if your main character already has:
- An appropriate character level
- A properly leveled weapon
- Important Talents leveled
- Required ascensions completed
then improving their Artifacts may provide the next meaningful increase.
At that point, spending significant Resin on Artifact Domains makes much more sense.
The key difference is that Artifact improvement has no guaranteed endpoint.
9. Do Not Chase Perfect Artifacts Too Early
Suppose your character has functional Artifacts with the correct main stats, but their weapon and Talents still need major upgrades.
Spending thousands of Resin trying to improve one Artifact substat may provide less value than completing those guaranteed upgrades first.
A practical Artifact progression can look like:
Correct main stats → Useful set → Reasonable substats → Optimization
You do not need perfect Artifacts before moving on to other characters.
10. Weekly Bosses Can Be Worth the Resin
Weekly bosses provide materials needed for higher Talent levels and other valuable rewards.
If an important character needs a specific weekly boss material, obtaining those rewards should be included in your Resin planning.
However, you do not necessarily need to claim every possible weekly boss reward every week.
Ask whether the rewards support:
- Characters you currently use
- Characters you are actively building
- Near-future upgrades

11. Do Not Spread Resin Across Too Many Characters
One of the fastest ways to feel like Resin is never enough is to build too many characters simultaneously.
Imagine farming:
- Boss A for Character A
- Boss B for Character B
- Talent Domain C for Character C
- Weapon Domain D for Character D
- Artifacts for Character E
Every character progresses slowly.
Instead, choose a smaller number of immediate goals.
For example:
Finish Character A’s ascension → finish their weapon → level important Talents → obtain functional Artifacts → move to the next priority.
Focused farming produces visible progress much faster.
12. Main DPS Is Not Automatically the Only Priority
Your main damage dealer often deserves significant investment, but team performance depends on multiple characters.
Once your main character reaches a reasonable level of investment, improving an underbuilt support or off-field DPS may provide more value than chasing another tiny Artifact improvement.
For example, upgrading an important support Talent or off-field character’s weapon can improve the entire rotation.
Think about the team, not only one character.
13. Reaction Teams Can Change Resin Priorities
Some Elemental Reactions depend heavily on character level and Elemental Mastery.
For characters responsible for triggering reactions such as Hyperbloom, Burgeon, or other transformative reactions, character level can be particularly important.
In these cases, leveling the reaction trigger may deserve priority over chasing traditional ATK or CRIT improvements.
Your Resin strategy should reflect how the character actually deals damage.
14. Should You Use Resin for Materials You Might Need Later?
Usually, current confirmed upgrades should come first.
Pre-farming can make sense when:
- You definitely plan to build a character
- Their materials are confirmed
- Your current team does not need urgent upgrades
- You want the character ready immediately
But speculative Resin spending can leave you with materials you never use.
This matters especially for unreleased characters whose requirements may not yet be officially confirmed.
Farm confirmed needs before uncertain ones.
15. What If You Have Nothing Important to Upgrade?
Eventually, you may reach a point where your main teams already have their important guaranteed upgrades.
At that stage, Resin becomes much more flexible.
You might spend it on:
- Artifact optimization
- Building additional characters
- Future Talent materials
- Mora reserves
- Character EXP reserves
- Pre-farming confirmed characters
There is nothing wrong with spending most of your Resin on Artifacts once guaranteed progression is no longer the bottleneck.
That is very different from doing so while your important characters are still underdeveloped.
Simple Resin Priority Order
For many accounts, this is a useful starting framework:
High Priority
- Required character ascension materials
- Important weapon upgrades
- Important Talent levels
- Character levels when they meaningfully affect performance
Farm When Needed
- Mora
- Character EXP
- Weekly boss materials
- Additional character materials
Long-Term Investment
- Functional Artifact sets
- Better Artifact substats
- Additional characters
- Future resource reserves
This is not a rigid universal order.
If one resource is preventing an important upgrade, that resource can immediately become your highest priority.
How to Decide What to Farm Today
Before spending Resin, ask these questions:
1. Is an important character waiting for an ascension?
Farm the required boss.
2. Is an important weapon underleveled?
Farm its ascension materials when available.
3. Are important Talents behind?
Farm the appropriate Talent Domain.
4. Are Mora or EXP preventing those upgrades?
Farm Ley Lines.
5. Are the important guaranteed upgrades already complete?
Farm Artifacts or begin investing in another character.
This simple process prevents a lot of wasted Resin.
Example: Where Should 160 Resin Go?
Suppose your main damage dealer needs:
- One more ascension
- Two Talent upgrades
- Better Artifacts
The tempting option may be spending all your Resin on the Artifact Domain.
But the ascension and Talent upgrades provide predictable improvements.
A better approach may be:
Finish the ascension → finish the important Talents → return to Artifact farming.
Once those upgrades are completed, you never need to farm them again for that level.
Artifacts may consume Resin indefinitely.
Resin Efficiency Is Not About Never Wasting Anything
It is easy to become overly concerned about perfect Resin efficiency.
You do not need to calculate the theoretical value of every point of Resin.
The purpose of Resin is to progress your account.
If you need Mora, farming Mora is useful.
If you want to build a new character, farming their materials is useful.
If your characters are already well developed and you enjoy Artifact optimization, farming Artifacts is useful.
Efficiency should help you reach your goals—not make the game feel like resource accounting.
Resin Priority Checklist
Before farming, check:
- Which character am I currently building?
- What is their next guaranteed upgrade?
- Is their weapon sufficiently leveled?
- Which Talents actually matter?
- Do I have enough Mora?
- Do I have enough Character EXP?
- Do I need weekly boss materials?
- Are my Artifacts already functional?
- Would improving another teammate provide more value?
- Am I farming toward a real goal?
If you can answer those questions, deciding where to spend Resin becomes much easier.
Final Advice
There is no single activity that is always the best use of Original Resin.
The most efficient use is usually whatever removes the biggest progression bottleneck from the characters and teams you currently use.
Prioritize guaranteed improvements such as ascensions, weapons, important Talents, and necessary character levels.
Farm Mora and Character EXP when they prevent those upgrades.
Once your core guaranteed progression is in a good place, Artifact farming becomes a much more reasonable long-term Resin investment.
Most importantly, avoid spreading your Resin across too many unrelated goals.
Choose the next meaningful upgrade, finish it, and then move to the next one.
That simple approach makes Resin management much easier and keeps your account progressing consistently.
