Adventure Rank 20–30 is one of the first major progression stages in Genshin Impact.
Your World Level begins increasing, more upgrade systems become important, and you suddenly have many different ways to spend your Original Resin and other resources.
This can make it difficult to know what you should actually focus on.
The short answer is simple:
At AR 20–30, focus on one core team, keep your main damage dealer and weapons upgraded, spend Resin on guaranteed upgrades, continue progressing through quests, and avoid serious Artifact farming until later.
Here is what you should prioritize.
1. Build One Core Team First
One of the biggest mistakes new players make is trying to build every character they obtain.
At AR 20–30, your resources are still limited. Character EXP materials, Mora, Ascension materials, weapon materials, and Talent materials become increasingly expensive as your characters grow.
Instead, choose a small core team and concentrate most of your resources there.
A simple early team usually needs:
- A primary damage dealer
- One or two characters providing off-field damage or Elemental Reactions
- A healer, shielder, or other defensive support
You do not need a perfect endgame team yet.
The goal is simply to have four characters that work reasonably well together.
2. Prioritize Your Main Damage Dealer
Your primary damage dealer should receive the most investment during this stage.
As your World Level increases, enemies become stronger. If your main character falls too far behind, even normal exploration can suddenly become frustrating.

Your support characters do not always need the same level of investment immediately.

4. Start Upgrading Important Talents
Talent progression begins becoming relevant during this Adventure Rank range. Talent material Domains become available as your account progresses, including Domains of Mastery from AR27 onward.
However, you do not need to level every Talent equally.
Different characters rely on different parts of their kit.

- Some characters primarily depend on their Elemental Skill.
- Others rely heavily on their Elemental Burst.
- Certain on-field characters benefit greatly from Normal Attack levels.
- Some supports barely use their Normal Attacks at all.

5. Don’t Seriously Farm Artifacts Yet

Artifact Domains become much more valuable later.
At AR45, the highest-level Artifact Domains become available and guarantee at least one 5-star Artifact per reward claim, making serious Artifact farming considerably more efficient.
For now, your Resin is generally better spent on guaranteed character progression.
6. Spend Original Resin on Guaranteed Upgrades
Do not become obsessed with achieving perfect Resin efficiency, but try not to leave your Original Resin capped for long periods either.
At AR 20–30, useful Resin targets include:
- Character Ascension materials from bosses
- Weapon Ascension materials
- Talent materials
- Character EXP materials when needed
- Mora when needed
These resources directly strengthen your account.
This is generally more valuable at this stage than repeatedly farming Artifacts that you are likely to replace later.
7. Save Most of Your Fragile Resin
Original Resin regenerates over time.
Fragile Resin is different because it is a limited consumable resource.
You will receive Fragile Resin from various progression rewards, and it can be tempting to use all of it immediately to speed up your account.
There is usually no need.
Saving a substantial amount until around AR45 gives you the option to use it when high-level Artifact farming becomes significantly more efficient. This remains a common recommendation in both established beginner guides and current new-player discussions.
You do not have to treat Fragile Resin as something you can never touch—just avoid burning through your entire supply during early progression.
8. Continue Archon Quests and Important Quests
Do not turn AR 20–30 into nothing but farming.
Continue progressing through the main story.
Archon Quests and other important quests unlock additional regions, systems, activities, and progression opportunities.
During roughly AR21–30, players commonly progress through Liyue’s Archon Quest, while additional systems and content continue opening as Adventure Rank increases.
If you are ever unsure whether you should spend hours farming or continue progressing through the game, continuing important quests is usually a good choice.
9. Prioritize Limited-Time Events When Available
Permanent quests and exploration will still be there later.
Limited-time events will not.
Once you meet an event’s requirements, check its remaining duration and rewards.
Events can provide useful resources such as Primogems, Mora, character materials, and other progression rewards.
You do not need to rush every permanent activity just because it appears in your quest log.
When an event is about to expire, it can make sense to prioritize it over content that will remain permanently available.
10. Explore, But Don’t Force 100% Completion
Exploration is valuable at this stage, but you do not need to completely clear every region before progressing.
While exploring:
- Unlock Teleport Waypoints
- Activate Statues of The Seven
- Open chests you encounter
- Collect regional specialties
- Gather ores and common materials
- Complete convenient puzzles and World Quests
Unlocking travel points is particularly useful because you will revisit these regions later for quests, bosses, character materials, and farming routes.
Think of AR 20–30 exploration as building your transportation network and gathering resources naturally, not as a requirement to reach 100% exploration immediately.
11. Prepare for World Level Increases
This is an area that deserves more attention than many beginner guides give it.
At AR20, World Level 1 begins.
At AR25, completing the Adventure Rank Ascension Quest allows progression to World Level 2.
At AR30, World Level 3 follows.
Higher World Levels improve available rewards, but enemies also become stronger.
Before advancing, ask:
- Is my main damage dealer properly leveled?
- Is their weapon upgraded?
- Have I upgraded the Talents that matter?
- Can my team defeat bosses comfortably?
- Do I have a usable healer or defensive option?
You do not need a perfect account.
You simply want to avoid entering a harder progression stage while your entire team is severely underdeveloped.

What Should Your Account Look Like by AR 30?
There is no single correct AR30 account.
You do not need specific 5-star characters, perfect Artifacts, or an optimized endgame team.
A healthy account at this stage simply has:
One dependable core team, a reasonably developed primary damage dealer, upgraded weapons, useful Talents, and enough resources to continue progressing comfortably.
If you have that, you are ready for the next stage.
Common AR 20–30 Mistakes
Try to avoid:
- Leveling every character you obtain
- Upgrading too many weapons at once
- Spending large amounts of Resin farming early Artifacts
- Ignoring weapon and Talent upgrades
- Using all of your Fragile Resin immediately
- Building teams purely around character rarity
- Delaying progression because you think you need 100% exploration first
Most early-game progression problems come from spreading limited resources across too many things at once.

AR 20–30 is about building a foundation, not creating a perfect account.
