When a character is featured on a limited-time banner in Genshin Impact, you can usually try that character before deciding whether you want to wish for them.
But Character Test Runs aren’t only for testing gameplay.
Each available trial also comes with a one-time completion reward, so even if you have no intention of pulling for the character, it’s worth completing the Test Run before the event ends.
Open the Test Run Event
During eligible Character Event Wishes, open the Events menu and look for the character trial event.
The Test Run page shows the characters currently available to try along with the reward offered for completing each trial.
Select a character to enter a special challenge designed around that character.
You don’t need to own the featured character to participate.
Complete the Trial to Claim the Reward
Once inside the Test Run, use the provided character and team to complete the challenge.
These trials are designed to let you experience the character’s basic combat style, including their:
- Normal Attacks
- Elemental Skill
- Elemental Burst
- General combat mechanics
- Basic interactions with the provided team
After completing the challenge, return to the Test Run event page and claim the available reward.
Don’t forget this last step—the reward isn’t useful if you complete the trial and leave it sitting unclaimed.
Featured 5-Star Test Runs Give Primogems
The main featured 5-star character trials are especially worth checking because completing them provides Primogems.
A featured 5-star Character Test Run typically awards:
- 20 Primogems
- Character Ascension materials
- Other character-related materials
The exact non-Primogem rewards can depend on the character and trial.
Twenty Primogems isn’t a huge amount by itself, but the challenge is quick and doesn’t cost Resin.
4-Star Character Trials Have Rewards Too
Don’t stop after completing only the featured 5-star character’s trial.
The available 4-star character Test Runs can also provide one-time rewards, although their rewards differ from the featured 5-star trial and generally don’t include the same Primogem reward.
These trials can still provide useful character materials for very little effort.
If several characters are available to test, check each one individually to see whether it still has an unclaimed reward.
You Can Complete Test Runs Even If You Don’t Plan to Wish
You don’t need to be interested in the current banner to benefit from Character Test Runs.
Maybe you’re saving Primogems for a future character, already own the featured character, or simply don’t want anyone on the current banner.
You can still complete the available trials and collect their rewards.
There is no requirement to wish on the banner afterward.
Test Runs Are Also Useful Before Pulling a Character
The rewards are a nice bonus, but the original purpose of the feature is still useful.
A Test Run gives you a chance to see how a character feels before spending Primogems.
Pay attention to things such as:
- How their attacks feel
- How their Elemental Skill works
- How their Elemental Burst plays
- Their movement and attack timing
- Whether you actually enjoy their playstyle
The trial environment isn’t a perfect representation of how the character will perform on your own account, since the provided build, enemies, and teammates are predetermined.
Still, it can help you decide whether you actually enjoy controlling the character.
Don’t Forget Before the Banner Changes
Character Test Runs are tied to their corresponding event period.
When the available banners change, the associated trials and their unclaimed rewards also change.
So if you see a Test Run you haven’t completed yet, it’s better to claim the reward while it’s available rather than assuming you can come back to it later.
A quick check of the Test Run page whenever new Character Event Wishes arrive can prevent you from leaving easy rewards unclaimed.
Quick Tip
Whenever the Character Event Wishes change, check the Test Run event even if you aren’t planning to pull.
Open Test Run → Complete each available trial → Return to the event page → Claim the rewards.
It only takes a short time, costs no Resin, and can give you Primogems and useful character materials that are easy to overlook.
